Integration estimates go wrong because teams price the happy path. The happy path is a week. The budget goes to the states the provider's docs leave out: partial success, delayed callbacks, a status that flips twice, a reference stripped in transit. That is where reconciliation and support tooling get built. Ask a vendor for their failure modes before you ask for their endpoints, because the integration that surprises you most is probably the one already marked "done".
