Most take-home tasks hire for the wrong half of the job. They test building something new, while the actual work is operating a system someone else wrote, live. Reading unfamiliar code, finding the one path that breaks under retries, deciding what not to touch: none of that shows up in a clean repo. We would rather watch someone debug than scaffold. Probably worth checking what your own interview measures.
