Years ago we hired a backend engineer who sailed through our technical interview, then spent the first weeks arguing with QA about what "done" meant. The code was fine. They had just never had to prove to anyone else that it worked. So we changed the format: a QA role now sits in on every engineering interview and asks one question, how would you convince someone else this works. The answers sort people quickly, and not by years of experience. If we could keep only one interview question, that would probably be ours.
