On a Python 2→3 migration we deleted a file that nothing imported and nothing referenced. Just a comment at the top: do not delete.
Two hours later half the handlers weren't registered, because the import side effects were the architecture. Now anything "unused" gets grepped, then sits one release before it dies. Most codebases probably have one of those load-bearing junk files.
