We once quoted a payment integration by counting endpoints. Eleven of them, two weeks, easy. Then production arrived with partial captures, late refunds, and a chargeback that landed after the order was already archived, states nobody had written down anywhere. The overrun came from states rather than code.
Now we size an integration by how many states money can sit in, not by how many endpoints the docs list. Curious whether anyone estimates these on a better unit.
